Digital SAT Scoring Frequently Asked Questions

How does adaptive scoring work on the 2026 Digital SAT?

The Digital SAT is section-adaptive. Both the Reading & Writing and Math sections are split into two modules. Everyone takes a baseline Module 1 with a mix of easy, medium, and hard questions. Depending on your accuracy on Module 1, the software routes you to either a harder or easier Module 2. The harder module unlocks scores up to 800, whereas the easier module caps your maximum section score around 590–620.

How many questions can you miss and still get an 800 in Math?

On the Digital SAT Math section, missing 1 question may still yield an 800 or 790 depending on question difficulty weightings and test form calibration. Missing 2 questions typically produces a 780–790, and missing 3 questions lands around 760–770.

Are there experimental / unscored questions on the Digital SAT?

Yes. Each section contains 2 pretest questions per module (4 pretest questions in Math and 4 in Reading & Writing) that do not count toward your final score. However, because College Board does not label them, students must treat every question with equal diligence.
